Vilnius tours follow the trail of royal love

In history textbooks, we mostly read dry facts: dates, causes, consequences. In this way, the people who lived in the past are, as it were, depersonalised. Their merits and mistakes are discussed, but their feelings, inner dramas and relationships are forgotten. And naturally, there were all kinds of emotions. The love story of Barbara Radziwiłł and Sigismund Augustus is a perfect example, full of controversy, mystery, romance and the overwhelming power of strong feelings.

The story of a royal love affair that took place in the 16th century—true and lyrical in a northern way—is a strong cornerstone of Vilnius Old Town’s identity. It was for this story, for Vilnius’s royal golden age and for more interesting gifts from Lithuania that the start-up “Slapta meilė” was created.
