“Colourful Royal Vilnius” Shopping Bag

A joint collection by SLAPTA MEILĖ and PITEX. Designed and made in Lithuania.

The artwork for the “Colourful Royal Vilnius” collection was created by designer Julija Janus.

On the Vilnius love map, the buildings of Vilnius Old Town are arranged in a carefully thought-out order. From left to right are the most iconic places in Vilnius linked to the legendary royal couple, Barbara Radziwiłł and Sigismund Augustus. Their love story in Vilnius unfolded in and around the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, where you can still find the remains of the floor of the royal love story tunnel, as well as portraits of Sigismund Augustus and a sculpted bust of him. Vilnius Cathedral – where the famous couple secretly married. St Anne’s Church, where Barbara Radziwiłł prayed. Pilies Street, and the Gate of Dawn, through which Barbara left for Kraków to be crowned queen, and through which she returned to be buried in Vilnius Cathedral. And, of course, the monument to Barbara Radziwiłł, drawn next to the Jesuit Church and Monastery – whose crown, if you stand at a certain spot on Vokiečių Street, lands in perspective right on the head of Barbara’s silhouette.

Romantic Vilnius unfolds in a single drawing of a royal love story, not least because its Old Town is recognised by UNESCO as one of the 8 most romantic capitals in Europe. That recognition is what inspired us to create the Vilnius love map collection.
